CYBO : art-science installation

In CYBO data processing and preparation for assimilation and understanding is expressed through the sonification of a specific set of data describing food consumption, namely “global hunger index” and “global obesity levels”.

These indexes, sampled for 4 countries (Italy, USA, Central Africa Republic and India) are mapped to the frequency, intensity and rhythmic patterns of the sound obtained by actuating pasta in order to produce the corresponding spatialized soundscape.

The resulting Brownian sound textures, related to the motion of pasta into boiling water, gives a new access to data transformation process from a raw state to an intelligible state: agitation and rest cycles can be at last experienced by the touch as well, which is otherwise usually impeded by high hazardous temperatures.
